Young women are indoctrinated with the idea that other women are competition; that one woman’s success, prettiness, thinness, or intelligence take away from their own. From seeing young female Disney channel stars continuously pitted against each other in media, we are told to gossip and tear one another down; to “not be like other girls.” 

In the beginning half of 2021, Disney stars Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter were rivaled against each other in headlines following speculation that Sabrina had started dating Joshua Bassett, Olivia’s ex-lover. In an attempt to combat pop culture’s obsession with ‘girl wars,’ Olivia and Sabrina collaborate with Everlane to create a sustainable line that empowers women to empower each other, rather than to perpetuate internalized misogyny. Another woman’s strength and beauty only highlight another.
